National Bravery Awards-2005

The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh will give away National Bravery Awards for the year 2005 to 17 children-05 girls and 12 boys on 24th Jan 2006. Master Shibu T will get the award posthumously.

Master Ratul Chandra Rabha (14 years) and Master Rituparna Boro (15 years) of Assam have been given the coveted Bharat Award for chasing the militants who killed their school teacher. One of the militants was apprehended. Master Sanmesh Mahesh Kalyanpur (14 years) of Maharashtra has been given the prestigious Sanjay Chopra Award for saving his sister from drowning. Ten year old Km. Seidalyne Mawtyllup of Meghalaya has been given the Geeta Chopra Award. Seidalyne saved her three month old sister from a blazing house.

Kum Dugi alias Minati (14 years) of Orissa, Km. C Susheela (14 years) of Andhra Pradesh and Master Mahesh Kumar (15 years) of Uttaranchal have been selected for the Bapu Gayadhani Awards. Km. Dugi alias Minati and Km. C Susheela both displayed extraordinary courage in revolting against the social evil of child marriage. Master Mahesh Kumar displayed bravery in saving an 11 year old girl from the jaws of a tiger.

The other recipients are: Master Sarath sabu, Km. Divya TV, Late Master Shibu T (all from Kerala), Master Laxman (Chattisgarh), Master Mukesh Kumar Tanwar (Madhya Pradesh), Master Puttijungshi (Nagaland), Master Nelson Karam, Km L. Pusparani Devi (both from Manipur), Master Nagarani Venkateswara Rao (Andhra Pradesh), Master Santosh Ramesh Dahe (Maharashtra).

World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award

Mr N. R. Narayana Murthy, chairman and chief mentor, Infosys Technologies became the first Indian to win the prestigious Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award. A high-powered 11 member jury of global business leaders, bestowed this honor upon Mr. Narayana Murthy at a spectacular awards ceremony on June 7, 2003 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.

1. Europe is, by convention, one of the world's seven continents. Comprising the westernmost peninsula of Eurasia, Europe is generally divided from Asia to its east by the water divide of the Ural Mountains, the Ural River, the Caspian Sea, and by the Caucasus Mountains to the southeast.

2. Europe is the world's second-smallest continent by surface area, covering about 10,180,000 square kilometres (3,930,000 sq mi) or 2% of the Earth's surface and about 6.8% of its land area.

Lake Titicaca: It is the highest navigable lake in the world situated between Peru and Bolivia.

Over the first 35 years there were a total of 201 novels from 135 authors on the shortlists.

Of the 97 novelists nominated once, there were 13 winners and three joint winners.

Of the 19 novelists nominated twice, there were seven winners and one two-time winner (J. M. Coetzee).

Of the 10 novelists nominated three times, there were four winners, one joint winner and one two-time winner (Peter Carey).

Of the six four-time nominees, all but William Trevor have won once. The other four-time nominees are Kazuo Ishiguro, Ian McEwan, Salman Rushdie, Thomas Keneally and Penelope Fitzgerald.

There have only been two five-time nominees, Margaret Atwood (first nominated in 1986 and won in 2000) and Beryl Bainbridge (nominated twice in the 1970s and three times in the 1990s, but she has never won).

There has been only one six-time nominee, Iris Murdoch, who won on her fourth nomination in 1978 and was nominated twice more in the 1980s.
